Question: How Often Should I Take a Dose of My Homeopathic Remedy?
Mild Situations: Conditions for which you would not bother seeking professional help.
Examples: A mildly sprained ankle, or a nuisance-value sore throat.
Dose: Every 4 hours while symptoms are present and not improving. If the remedy is correct, an improvement should be noticed by 4 doses. Once improvement begins, take the remedy only as needed to continue improvement.
Moderate Situations: Conditions for which you might seek professional help.
Examples: A painful and swollen sprained ankle, or a troublesome sore throat.
Dose: Every 2 hours while symptoms are present and not improving. If the remedy is correct an improvement should be noticed by 4 doses. Once improvement begins, take the remedy only as needed to continue improvement.
Severe Situations: Conditions for which you would seek professional help as soon as possible
Examples: A swollen and painful ankle that you can not place any weight on, or a sore and red throat that makes eating or drinking difficult.
Dose: Every ½ hour while symptoms are present and not improving. If the remedy is correct an improvement should be noticed within 4 doses. Once improvement begins, take the remedy only as needed to continue improvement.
Emergency Situations: This would be when you are on the phone for an ambulance.
Examples: An obviously broken ankle where there is heavy bleeding and shock, or a painful, swollen throat that is affecting breathing.
Dose: Every 15 seconds to a minute if symptoms are present and not improving – there should be a rapid improvement if the remedy is correct. If there is no improvement at all by 4 doses, change to another remedy as you wait for the ambulance to arrive. Once improvement begins, take the remedy only as needed to continue improvement.
Remember
When treating an acute complaint, if there has been no improvement at all by 4 doses, stop taking the remedy as it is the wrong one and will not help. Choose another remedy and restart treatment. (Note: practitioner treatment for chronic problems may need more than 4 doses before improvement takes place.) As symptoms improve, spread the doses further and further apart (i.e. take the remedy less often). Do not take the remedy if symptoms are no longer present.
Note: These instructions apply to acute problems only. Chronic problems managed by a practitioner may need a longer period of dosing before the condition improves.
