NZ Press Council rules against anti-homeopathy article

Last year, New Zealand North and South magazine carried a misleading article called “Homeopathy – Trick or Treatment?” that claimed:

“….homeopathic remedies have failed every randomised, evidence-based scientific study seeking to verify their claims of healing powers.”

and,

“…there is no scientific evidence of homeopathy’s efficacy.”

Following a complaint by Tauranga homeopath, Clive Stuart, the NZ Press Council stated that newspapers and magazines “need to take particular care in references to medical research” and has now ruled that, “The references in this case were not sufficiently accurate, balanced or fair to homeopathy and its practitioners. On those grounds the complaint was upheld”.

Cows benefit from homeopathy too

An observational pilot study has shown that cows with udder inflammation benefited from a combination homeopathic remedy applied directly to the teat. Mastitis was significantly improved in 4 -7 days and milk yield increased from the first treatment. Many dairy herdsmen across Europe, the UK and New Zealand use homeopathy extensively in their herds – and by placing the remedy into their cow’s drinking water rather than on their teats. It works just as quickly and is not as time-consuming or as expensive, leading to happy farmers and happy cows. With many other remedies available for the treatment of cow mastitis, an investment in a good ‘homeopathy for herds’ book is well worth while.

Homeopathy for malaria

Homeopathic remedies have been used for 200 years for the treatment and prevention of malaria.

New research now supports the clinical efficacy of this practice.

The study in question was designed to evaluate the efficacy of Cinchona officinalis (Chin.) 30C and Chelidonium majus (Chel.) 30C in combination therapy against lethal murine malaria.

The authors say, “The combination had a significant preventive activity (p<0.0005), with 89.2% chemosuppression which was higher than the standard drug, pyrimethamine (83.8%). It also showed a moderate curative activity with complete clearance of parasite in 50% of surviving mice, and enhancing the MST of mice up to 26.8±2.8 days. These findings point to the significant antiplasmodial efficacy of the combination of these homeopathic drugs against Plasmodium berghei.”

They also refer to other studies on the homeopathic treatment and prevention of malaria and speak of its cost-effectiveness without the creation of drug resistance or “inflicting” side-effects

“In a new low for even the mainstream media, the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph newspapers in Australia are pushing a campaign of outright medical child abuse they call “NO JAB NO PLAY.” The campaign demands that unvaccinated children be barred from all social contact with other children and condemned to the life of a social outcast where parents are presumably supposed to raise them in cages in dark basements. The paper has launched its horrific, anti-human-rights campaign, “NO JAB NO PLAY” that demands children who are not vaccinated with state-mandated chemicals (which include mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum and other toxins) be denied interaction with other children.”

Two important petitions

Petition 1: Stop the vilification of parents whose children have been injured or killed by vaccines.

Information from the petition: The Daily Telegraph newspaper in Sydney Australia and the other Australian papers owned by News Ltd have started a campaign to force the government to make vaccination compulsory for preschool and childcare – a campaign which will eventually lead to compulsory vaccination for all school children and potentially all Australians. This campaign has used strongly emotive language vilifying and abusing parents who have not vaccinated, many of whom have children or loved ones who were killed or permanently injured by vaccines. Racial, sexual and other forms of vilification are illegal in Australia – we believe that medical vilification should be as well. (This petition will soon close so be quick.)

Information from the Petition: Quietly the Australian Government is taking away our sovereign right to determine what enters our bodies and those of our children. It is time for us to say “we live in a democracy, we expect the Government to assist us to build our health and honour our personal choices”. Now is the time for a strong demand as the draft Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Bill is being determined. We need everyone to sign and to get their friends and relatives to sign, to Facebook and Twitter. An avalanche of signatories can make this Human Rights Bill empowering to individuals. Cactus grandiflorus (Cact.)

Cactus grandiflorus, also known as large-flowered cactus or Queen of the Night, is a climbing cactus with large white flowers. Indigenous to the Antilles, Mexico and Central America it has been used as a health tonic for centuries by those living with it.

Cactus grandiflorus entered the homeopathic materia medica in the 1800s after it was found in homeopathic potencies to help painful constrictions and spasms from restricted blood flow, especially of the heart. The pain, whether of the heart of elsewhere is often severe and described as band-like, as if “grabbed by an iron fist”, like digging wire.

Common Uses

When the remedy matches the symptom profile, Cactus grandiflorus has the ability to treat conditions such as angina, arrhythmia, headache, colic, coughing or vomiting of blood, myocarial infarct, neuralgia, valvular disease.
