What is Homeopathy?

The Australian Federal Government states, under the THERAPEUTIC GOODS REGULATIONS 1990, that a "homoeopathic preparation" means a preparation: (a) formulated for use on the principle that it is capable of producing in a healthy person symptoms similar to those which it is administered to alleviate; and (b) prepared according to the practices of homoeopathic pharmacy using the methods of: (i) serial dilution and succussion of a mother tincture in water, ethanol, aqueous ethanol or glycerol; or (ii) serial trituration in lactose.

Homeopathy is an alternative medical system that resolves a wide range of acute and chronic health problems by stimulating your body's own ability to heal. It is based on a natural law - the Law of Similiars, or "like cures like", discovered by the German physician and scientist, Samuel Hahnemann. It is free of harmful side-effects and so can be used safely by all ages, from babies to the elderly. Even animals can be treated homeopathically. For over 200 years Homeopathy's effectiveness has been proven clinically and experimentally around the world. Today it continues to increase in poplularity as more and more people rely on its remarkable ability to heal their health complaints gently and rapidly.

How Do I Find a Homeopath?

Many therapists have access to homeopathic medicines but do not necessarily have the skill to adequately prescribe them and manage a complaint, especially if it is of a chronic nature. Ensure that your practitioner has received the minimum level of training deemed necessary by the profession. You can search for a professional Homeopathic Practitioner by name, suburb, or postcode, on the Australian Homeopathic Association website at: http://www.homeopathyoz.org

What Does a Consultation Involve?

Initial consultations may take up to an hour or more. Information relating to current symptoms and past medical history will be required. Questions may also be asked about diet, sleep, lifestyle, and about some mental and emotional aspects. A homeopathic medicine that corresponds to the individual's unique complex of symptoms is then prescribed. For this reason, several people with the same complaint may each require a different remedy.

Can Homeopathic Medicines be Taken with Conventional Medicines?

Unlike some alternative treatments, Homeopathic medicines can be safely taken in conjunction with conventional medicines without any adverse effects.
